We’re also very lucky to be supported by our wonderful Teacher Aides – Denise Govind, Mary Ann Mulqueen and Janet Blackwood
We
aim to provide opportunities where possible for parents and caregivers to be
involved in their child’s learning at school. Some of the ways you can be
involved are Team Prayers on Friday mornings at 9am, weekly school assemblies,
coming along to games afternoons to join in with the children during numeracy
time, helping with school trips, helping at Discovery Time with cooking, sewing, sports, playing games etc, helping
out with such things as swimming, gymnastics and sporting events. This term we
would love some extra help at Discovery Time which is on Fridays 11-12pm. If you would like to help out in any way
please feel free to contact Pauline or your child’s teacher.

Trips, visits and events …
We’ve already enjoyed a play called Rap-unzel, put on by NZ Playhouse We were very lucky to have Tracy Robins, Holly’s mum, who participated in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in 2002, share with us all about her experiences ART MORNING We will be having a whole morning of art on Thursday 14 August … watch the corridors to see them transformed! FEAST of the ASSUMPTION Liturgy On Friday 15 August we will celebrate this feast day with a Liturgy. This will be held in our library at 9.15am. Parents and families are most welcome to attend. TEAM TAHI COMMONWEALTH GAMES Friday 15 August Room 12 planned and ran a fantastic sports morning for Team Tahi. LOOKING AFTER OURSELVES Tuesday 19 August We will be visited by Vicki who will teach us all about keeping safe around dogs. Please look out for the information booklet that will come home with your child so you can reinforce these safety messages. NUMERACY GAMES AFTERNOON Tuesday 9 September at 2pm You are invited to join in with maths activities and games in your child’s class. This will be followed by a cuppa in the staff room. This provides a good opportunity to find out more about what children are learning in numeracy, to meet your child’s friends, and to meet and make connections with other parents. Please email your child’s teacher if you can make it so we can gauge interest and cater for numbers. SPCA VISIT Thursday 4 September Staff from SPCA will come along to share with us all about caring for animals, as part of our science learning about living creatures. TALENT QUEST Wednesday 10 September Team Tahi children are very welcome to participate in our Talent Quest. They may like perform such as playing an instrument, sing a song, perform a dance to previously selected music, show some karate moves, share a poem, or any other skills or talents they may have. A few entries will be selected to go into the School Talent Quest which will be held on the last day of term, Friday 26 September. ZIPPITY ZOO VISIT Tuesday 16 September We are very excited to have Beverley and her animals visiting from Zipppity Zoo, to make our science learning come alive! She brings along her animals which the children learn more about and get the opportunity to interact with them. Children can wear sensible outdoor play clothes (no school uniform) and sports shoes to school on this day. SPORTS & DANCE Thursday 18 & 25 September Students will need to bring their sports shoes on these two Thursdays for our activities at the Johnsonville Community Centre. |
Reading at Home
How you can help your children read the books they bring home from school.
Find a quiet time and place to read together.
|
Look at the book together.
|
What to do if your child gets stuck.Give your child time to think. Often a child will work it out by themselves.
If they are still unsure you could prompt them with appropriate cues:
|
Read! Read! Read!Read with your child as often as possible. Read words wherever you find them. Read and talk about shopping lists, instructions, tickets, name tags, signs, and labels. Read favourite books again, and again, and again! Be a great model to your child by letting them see you reading and getting enjoyment out of it.
Great Books to Read Aloud A great list of books to read aloud to children of different ages. Includes the favourite books of many famous authors. |
