The day started off with an exciting trip on the Wellington train line and luckily the days were beautiful and sunny as we all walked to the gallery from the station. Each class was treated with a walking tour of the art on the Wellington waterfront.
We heard about the legend of Ngake and Whataitai and how they helped to form the Wellington harbour. A local artist had created two sculptures of the taniwhas and we were lucky enough to see them and even play inside them! All of the classes had a chance to visit the Gallery classroom and we worked together to create scales for our own Ngake and Whataitai for our classrooms. We followed up our visit with lunch at Frank Kitts Park along with a play on the awesome playground there.
Thanks to our wonderful parent help who came along to help.
