Room 12 and 13 have started a Social Studies inquiry into Journeys. During this unit we will explore three important questions-
WHY DID PEOPLE LEAVE THEIR HOMELAND?
WHAT DID THEY EXPERIENCE ON THE WAY?
WHAT WERE THEY GOING TO?
We are using drama, visual art, close reading, research, diary writing involving recounts to help explore this topic. We had so much fun re-enacting the stories of Kupe. We also have a wonderful example of a diary from Ms McHalick's great, great, grandfather. It has the most beautiful paintings of the scenes that he saw when travelling by ship in 1868. We will up date this with more ideas as we find out more.
